A sand mill (also called a bead mill in some markets) is a wet-grinding machine that uses zirconia / glass / steel beads as the grinding media to break down particles in a slurry. A grinding mill is the broader category — it includes sand mills, ball mills, attrition mills and air-jet mills. If your product is a low-viscosity slurry below ~50nm, you want a sand mill. Three things to check before paying a deposit: (a) is the quote EXW, FOB or CIF — most Chinese makers default to FOB Shanghai; (b) does the price include the grinding beads & spare seal kit (a fresh seal kit is USD 180–420 per set — you want one in the crate); (c) is installation included or billed separately. For our own vertical sand mill line, default terms are FOB Shanghai, 30% T/T deposit, 70% before shipment.

 

 

 

USD 18,000–55,000 FOB Shanghai for a Chinese-built 100L horizontal or vertical sand mill. European / Japanese equivalents run 2.5–4x. The widest cost driver is chamber material (PU/SS316 vs full ceramic) and certification scope (CE only vs CE+UL+ATEX).

 

8–12 years for the mechanical frame, 3–5 years for wear parts (rotor, wear-resistant liners, seals). Our factory warranty is 12 months; we design grinding chambers for a minimum service life of 3 years per the company spec sheet.

 

Usually no. Quote beads separately at USD 18–35/kg for 0.3mm yttria-stabilized zirconia. A 100L mill typically uses 60–80kg of beads per fill — budget USD 1,500–2,800 for first charge.

 

Only for sub-5L bench-top lab units. Anything >10L with proper certification, ATEX options and SS316L wetted parts will exceed USD 5,000 in 2026.

 

FOB Shanghai with your own freight forwarder is usually 8–15% cheaper end-to-end than CIF quotes from the factory. Sea freight from Shanghai to Hamburg / Long Beach / Mumbai in 2026 runs USD 1,200–3,500 per 20ft container.
